Is it Mondriaan? Picasso? Dali?
No, it is Ohana! We, had to be patient for more than a year, having seen the prototype already January last year. Obviously, the folks at Ohana think that the world is finally ready for a more radical looking ukulele!
And so it should be!
For those of you know have played the Vita uke, the tone of this uke will be familiar to you. It is as bold as the looks of this ukulele. The solid spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides create a bright, punchy and foremost, loud sound. Of course, the uke is strung with the premium Aquila strings, accentuating the bright tones and giving it that 'snap'.
The soundhole placement is not as novel as it may seem, reminding us of Ovation guitars and ukes primarily. However, the tone of this beast is far superior (if we may say so). There's something about the placement there, it almost seems as though that is where the sound really wants to come out. When you play this uke, you seem to hear better what you are doing, and we think the placement of this soundhole does have a lot to do with this.
What is also eyecatching is of course the abstract fretboard which is maple and rosewood.
Top and back binding plus matte finish are just right. The Gotoh friction tuners keep this uke perfectly in tune.
We realise that this look is not for everybody, but if this catches your eye, we will guarantee that it'll also catch your ears!
