Every now and then, a new ukulele brand just blows you away. This is one of those...
Handmade with the finest tonewoods these ukuleles are truly something else!
The solid spruce top has a nice and straigth and fine grain, lined with wood rope binding. The back and sides are solid rosewood also bound with a wood rope binding, giving it a traditional look. The headstock cap is rosewood as well.
The fretboard is rosewood and the nickel frets are smooth. The friction tuners ensure perfect balance and good tuning, they are precise and hold tune well. The bone nut and saddle combined with the top quality Aquila strings bring out the best of this uke, resulting in a punchy, yet rich tone.
The neck is mahogany and feels nice in the hand. It just feels good to pleay and sustain is good up and down the neck.
Thin gloss finish gives this uke a shine, but not a thick coating you see on many factory made ukes. The finish is a unique custom mix that has a nicer look, feel and tone than most other ukes and it is also harder than we have seen on many. You will find it scratches less than your average uke.
As for tone, this uke cuts through everything with clear separation of notes, plenty of bass and nice punchy treble that will delight those who like fingerpicking, rasguatos and latin style playing. It is also great if you are a performer that plays into a microphone as this uke pushes out so much volume!
To protect your uke, it comes with a deluxe ply case which is sturdy with nice padding and plush lining. A case this quality would retail at least for $65!
Double Island Ukuleles are in a leage of their own and at this price hard, if not, impossible to beat!
